Frankfort Township Democrats Committee

A Team of Awesome People!

Marc McKirdie

Chair

Lifelong Democrat and activist, working on campaigns in field, data, & manager roles in every election cycle since 2014. Marc has worked in or alongside the government for his entire career, & believes that good governance can provide the most utility for most people. Working for a national security organization in the Capital on January 6th, Marc’s passion for democracy & Democratic politics was further ignited as he watched the institutions he had dedicated his life to come under attack. He believes that, “We’re all in this together” is a far more convincing rallying cry than, “You are on your own.”

JoAnne Hamilton-Gunkel

Treasurer

JoAnne and her husband have been residents & active community members of Mokena for over 30 years. Their 2 grown children attended Mokena Public Schools & Lincoln Way East High School. During this time they were active volunteers for the schools & local sporting organizations. JoAnne is a lifelong, voting Democrat, a retired Public School Science teacher & an active  member of the Illinois Education Association. While teaching she served in several IEA Union roles; including Local Representative, Regional Representative, Regional Vice Chair and as a IEA Grassroots Political Activist for 6 years. Since retiring she has served as Precinct 12 Committee person since 2018 & is an active member of Frankfort Township Democrats & Will County Democrats. Her goal as a vital & engaged member of the FTD Executive Committee is to continue working hard to build a community that supports democratic ideals & values to elect candidates that uphold these principles.

Mark Cerkvenik

Vice-Chair

Dedicated lifelong Democrat & a proud member of the Mokena community since 1994. Mark’s passion for service ignited in 2018, & since July 2020, he has played a key role on the Frankfort Township Democrats Executive Board. Inspired by his father’s courageous service in WWII, Mark carries forward the fight for democracy with unwavering commitment. He stands as a champion for our community, working tirelessly to uphold the values of justice, equality, & progress. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future—because democracy thrives when we all stand up for it!

Mark Flagel

Secretary

Mark & his wife moved to Frankfort in 2020 in order to raise their young children. He has been volunteering in organized politics ever since he was in high school and continues to volunteer for local campaigns as well as congressional & presidential campaigns. Mark was elected to Precinct 21 Committee Person in June 2022. Professionally, he is a civil litigation attorney with a law firm in Joliet, IL. He wanted to become an attorney because they are in a position to help individuals, groups, & organizations with their legal issues & at the same time have the opportunity to further the public good. Mark’s focus is growing the Frankfort Township Democrats; he intends to stay in the community & raise his family for the long haul. He not only wants to have an impact in the most recent elections, but wants to have an impact for decades to come. His goal is to help elect candidates that deserve the Frankfort Township Democrats support. These candidates will offer the best vision & policies for a brighter, more prosperous future for all. Furthermore, Mark’s goal is to help candidates who represent & protect the interests of working people and who want to protect voting rights for everyone.
